About Gateway House
Mental illness is an invisible disease. You can't always see it, but for the adults we serve — living with schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, bipolar disorder, or major depression — it can quietly strip away the things that make life feel worth living: work, friendships, routine, a sense of purpose. For more than 40 years, Gateway has helped people in Greenville get those things back.
We're built on the Clubhouse Model — an internationally recognized approach where members and staff work side by side, as colleagues. Gateway is a daytime community. Members come to the Clubhouse to take part in the work that keeps the house running - answering phones, preparing meals, managing the front desk, and welcoming the next new member through the door. We call it the Work-Ordered Day, and it's the heart of how recovery happens here. Real work, real purpose, real relationships.
But belonging doesn't end when the workday does. On weekends, we head out into the community together, and we spend the holidays side by side at the Clubhouse — because many of our members don't have family nearby, and no one should have to spend a holiday alone.
Gateway House is accredited by Clubhouse International and recognized by SAMHSA as an evidence-based practice. But the reason we've been here for four decades is simpler than any credential — it's because it works.
At Gateway, everyone living with mental illness deserves a place to belong — and that's exactly what the Clubhouse is. Your gift helps keep that promise, opening our doors to every person in Greenville who needs a community where they're needed, wanted, and never left to face an invisible illness alone. Thank you for being part of it.
