I work at Able SC because I believe every South Carolinian deserves the chance to live independently, work meaningfully, and exercise their rights fully, regardless of disability.
As a person with multiple disabilities, this work is deeply personal to me. I know what it feels like to navigate systems that are confusing, frustrating, and not always built with disabled people in mind. I also know how powerful it can be when someone is given the right information, the right support, and the confidence to make decisions about their own life.
That is why I chose this career. I want to be part of work that helps people with disabilities understand their options, protect their independence, and move toward the lives they want. In my role on Able SC’s Work Incentives Planning & Assistance (WIPA) team, while training to become a Certified Community Work Incentives Coordinator (CWIC), I am learning how to help people understand how work may affect Social Security disability benefits, Medicare, Medicaid, and other supports. This matters because no one should have to choose between pursuing meaningful work and losing the stability they depend on.
